Board Members

Maggy Wallace, Executive Chair
Maggy has a substantial background in professional education, the health service and professional regulation in the UK and internationally. Her various roles of relevance to this work include: WHO Expert on professional regulation; Director of Standards at the UK Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting; lay Chair of the Council of Organisations Registering Homeopaths; Community Health Council member; and Non Executive Director (and Chair) of an NHS Foundation Trust. She has a passion for effective professional regulation in the public interest and is delighted to be part of this exciting initiative.


Kay Dixon
Kay is an enthusiastic consumer champion.  Previously a member of the National Council of Postwatch, the statutory consumer body for postal services, she was for five years its regional chair for Greater London.  Currently she is a member of the Customer Impact Panel of the Association of British Insurers and was previously head of press and public affairs at the London Stock Exchange where she was a member of the Regulation Committee.  She has worked extensively in politics and public affairs.


Daniella Jenkins
Daniella has experience in regulation and policy development.  Specialising in the development and implementation of new initiatives, she successfully led the development of a new Dental Care Professionals register at the General Dental Council. After leaving the healthcare regulatory sector to head youth initiatives at Transport for London, she recently returned and is currently Head of Business Strategy at the Nursing and Midwifery Council.


John Lant
John Lant has experience in statutory and voluntary healthcare regulation and was a Privy Council Appointee of the first General Osteopathic Council. He provides expert advice in professional negligence.
In 2007 John started working with the Prince's Foundation for Integrated Health as an Independent Chair supporting practitioners and professional therapy groups moving towards CHNC regulation. He was appointed a Finance Committee Member of the CNHC in 2008.
John heads a group Osteopathic Practice in Cambridge, is a Lay Member of the Family Mediation Council, a Mental Health Act Panel Member and Chairman of the Resources Committee of Dentists' & General advising as Non-Executive Director on HR, financial management and FSA compliance.


Mike O'Farrell

Mike O'Farrell
Mike was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the British Acupuncture Council in 1999. Over the past seven years he has instigated and guided the Council through many decisive changes, and with 2,800 members the Council has now secured its place as the lead body for traditional acupuncture in the UK. Mike is part of the Joint Working Group reporting to the Department of Health on acupuncture regulation and also chairs the Chinese Medicine Working Group for the Department. Mike was previously employed by the Eastman Kodak Company and was the Director of Communications and Public Affairs for Europe, Africa and the Middle East as well as a member of the Board of Kodak UK Ltd and Kodak Ireland Ltd.


Anne Sultoon
Anne has over 30 years experience of working in post-16 education from college lecturer to middle manager, to senior manager and independent consultant.  While most of Anne’s experience has been in further education, she has undertaken a number of assignments in work-based learning, higher education and with a local authority.  Her extensive experience in leadership and management has included programmes in a range of complementary therapies.  Anne has been a lay member of the General Council of Massage Therapy.  Committed to education and an interest in complementary therapies, she is very pleased to be part of the CNHC.


Dimitrios Varsamis
Dimitrios worked in medical and environmental diagnostics research, before moving into healthcare performance assessment and system regulation. He has worked in analytical roles, with local, national and international healthcare data sets, as well as, more recently, in strategy development. He has previously served as, amongst other things, a Patient and Public Involvement representative in Health, an acute trust forum member and a Science and Engineering ambassador in schools.

 


Julian Weinberg
Julian Weinberg has been a solicitor for 25 years practising in the field of criminal law. He has extensive experience of professional regulation: he is an Adjudicator for the Solicitors Regulation Authority and chairs the Conduct and Regulation Panel.  He also sits as a Lay Member of the Nursing and Midwifery Council. He is Chair of the Legal Services Commission Area Costs Committee, chairs an Education Appeal Panel and is a Trustee of the Howard League for Penal Reform.


Maggie Dunn

Maggie Dunn, Chief Executive and Registrar

Maggie was a nurse before becoming a trade union official. As Senior National Officer, she became a national negotiator in the NHS and she also established UNISON's Fitness to Practise unit, where she was the lead advocate. Maggie was lay Chair of the General Council for Massage Therapy until June 2008. She is a Chair of trustees for a national British charity and is also on the board of another international charity. She also works as a mediator. Maggie is a strong people person who strives to achieve fairness and transparency in everything she does; she is enjoying the challenges of the CNHC.
